According to this year’s consumer reports you cannot judge a mattress based off of the label it has. Terms like Extra Firm, Firm, Plush or Ultra Plush are not standard and vary between mattress manufacturers. Who is really to say whether a mattress is firm or extra firm? The only true way to know how a mattress is going to feel is to lay down on it. You can use Plush Mattress and Firm Mattress as a guide while sifting through the vast diversity of mattresses that are available, but in the end it is all relative to the type of sleeper that you are. Lying down on a mattress in your normal sleeping position will allow you to feel for any pressure points or anomalies that the mattress may have.
To create a better mattress shopping experience, familiarize yourself with the different mattresses that are available (TMM mattress experts are happy to go through this with you!). Next, lie on the mattress and feel if it’s fit for you. You probably already know what comfort level that you like while sleeping so you will know if the mattress meets your basic comfort needs immediately. However, this does not mean that the mattress is a good fit for you. You must lay on the mattress for at least 10 minutes in order to experience what you would feel while sleeping.
