Pros & Cons of a “Bed In A Box”

Breaking news – Texas Mattress Makers won’t be rolling-up, folding-over and sucking the air out of their mattresses anytime soon – meaning, we don’t think you should purchase a mattress-in-a-box.

Do you enjoy shopping online? Well, that makes two of us! We fully understand that the convenience and ease of shopping online. No matter where you are or what else you may have going on – whip out your phone, tablet or computer and within seconds your next bag of dog food is on the way to your front door. Nice, right?

But – we believe – there are exceptions! Whether you buy your mattress online or in the showroom it is important to remember there is no “one size fits all” mattress.

A “Bed In A Box” has taken the industry by a storm.  It has become the trend and mainly because of how it is marketed to the consumers.  It took the confusion out of the buying process and made the claim that you can find what you need by just purchasing one of the three to four options these e-tailers have.  This is not how a mattress should be looked at.  There are many options when considering a mattress.  You should have the option to choose between different components that offer different levels of support and comfort for an array of body types and sleep positions.  Here are things to consider:

1. Soft / Medium / Firm: Other than the actual meaning of the words, it is highly unlikely that you can describe the difference between a ‘soft’, ‘medium’, or ‘firm’ mattress. Why – because there’s an infinite array of differences between each mattress that are dictated by the internal components. You should be able to choose between a medium soft mattress, a plush mattress, a medium-firm or an ultra-firm mattress…

2. Body Type and Build: No one is built just like you. It’s much more than just height and weight. Think about the shape of your body – it’s unique, right? That means if you’re only completing an online quiz to help you select your mattress, there are many elements left out of the equation.

3. No Time: We understand, you’re busy. But, we believe the decision is important enough to take an hour, visit one of our showrooms and let us fit you to the right mattress. Your mattress is one of the very few things that you use every day and impacts your overall health and mood. However, if you are unable to visit the showroom we ask that you take our Mattress Quiz that we developed ourselves to try and simulate the experience you get with our mattress experts in the showroom online.
