Our Latex Mattress Components

Latex mattress components are some of the least known types of components used in mattresses today. However, latex has a lot going for it. Durable, resilient, breathable, hypoallergenic, and environmentally friendly, latex is ideal for many side and back sleepers or sleepers who don’t like the “cradling” feeling of traditional memory foam but need pressure point relief provided by a softer material in the comfort layer of their mattress.

Here’s everything you need to know about Texas Mattress Makers’ latex mattress components.

What is a Latex Mattress Made of?

Latex mattress is derived from the liquid of the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) which is typically found in South America. The liquid is extracted from trees not unlike how we extract sap from trees for maple syrup. Once enough liquid has been collected, it’s whipped with air into froth and poured into a mold.

In the method used to get our latex components, air is vacuumed from the mold, then the mixture is frozen before eventually being heated. The heating portion of the process is what sets the material into its final consistency.

What Types of Latex are Used in Latex Mattress Components?

Types of latex mattresses are defined by two different factors: the method used in their construction and the amount of natural latex in the final product. Specifically, there are two types of all-natural mattresses that use different manufacturing processes (called the Talalay and the Dunlop methods) as well as many different types of synthetic latexes.

All of these different types of latex can be formed to create soft, medium, and firm-feeling mattresses.

What Kind of Latex does Texas Mattress Makers Use?

Texas Mattress Makers uses CertiPUR-US®-certified, all-natural latex made using the Talalay method in our latex mattress components. Our Talalay latex is durable and can last for 20 years or more with regular wear and tear.  We get our latex from Talalay Global, which is the world’s largest producer of latex and the only manufacturer in the United States. The latex is perforated to allow for better airflow and cooling.

Our latex mattress components come in a range of firmness levels, from soft to firm. These are:

Celsion latex

The softest of our latex options, Celsion latex, is a phase-changing latex that helps keep your body cool throughout the night. The phase-changing material absorbs the heat from your body helps you to sleep within the ideal temperature zone. We use a Celsion latex comfort layer in our Florence Dual Select Latex Mattress.

Copper-infused latex

Our medium firmness latex option, copper-infused latex helps promote joint pain relief and can be ideal for those suffering from arthritis, no matter what sleeping position you prefer. The rubber cell structure of this latex gently lifts your body and helps to limit body impressions. We use copper-infused latex in our Geneva Copper Latex Hybrid Select Mattress, Rome Dual Latex Select Mattress, and our Florence Dual Select Latex Mattress.

Graphite-infused latex

The firmest of our latex options, graphite-infused latex uses natural graphite minerals to provide a cushioned feel with enhanced durability and strength. The graphite helps to wick away moisture and can also absorb heat released from your body during the night. We use graphite-infused latex in our Athens Graphite Latex Hybrid Mattress.

Where You’ll Find our Latex Mattress Components

At Texas Mattress Makers, we use latex mattress components in two different ways: in all-latex mattresses and as a comfort layer atop a hybrid mattress.

All-latex mattresses

Our 100% latex mattresses are made using different densities of latex in the different layers of the bed. The latex base layer is made of a high-density latex used exclusively by Texas Mattress Makers that provides 1,600 pounds of support. The comfort layer is softer and helps provide cushion.

Hybrid mattresses with a latex comfort layer

Latex-coil hybrid mattresses use an individually wrapped coil base with a 1″– 3″ comfort layer of latex as the top layer. The individually wrapped coil base is the support layer and can be created from a variety of different individually wrapped coils (including our popular Quantum® coil). Like the comfort layer in the 100% latex mattresses, the latex comfort layer in our hybrid helps provide cushioning.

Some of our individually wrapped coil and latex mattress hybrids include the London, Geneva, and Rome mattresses.
